Variable Speed Playback of MP4 video files

Many of the videos hosted by KUMC are of type MP4. When you click on the link to watch the video, depending on your browser and OS, you will have a variety of playback options. For those of you who would like to change the playback speed of the video, here are the options you have.

Firefox (Recommended)

Firefox's browser-based media player has variable speed support built in. Once the video starts playing, right-click the video, choose "Play Speed," and select the speed you want.

Chrome

Chrome requires an additional extension called "Video Speed Controler" to be installed. Once installed, during video play back, the speed control will display in the upper-left-hand corner of the video window.

Internet Explorer 11 and  Microsoft Edge (Windows 10)

In order to change playback speeds with these browsers, you will need to download the video and playback with Windows Media Player.

Safari

In order to change playback speeds, you will need to download the video and playback with QuickTime or install VLC and use it as a media player.

Andriod

In order to change playback speeds, you will need to install the VLC app first. When you go to link to watch the video, you will need to select the VLC app to play the video. Once playing, select the options, then the running man, and then change your speed.

iOS

In order to change playback speeds, you will need to install the VLC app first. When you go to link to watch the video, you will need to select the VLC app to play the video. Once playing, select the clock, and then change your speed.
