Better Blackboard Viewing Experience


I have worked with a number of faculty using Blackboard on their office computers. I have noticed that many do not have their computers set up to take advantage of seeing all of Blackboard on one screen. They end up scrolling their lives away trying to access areas of Blackboard, and sometimes miss important Submit buttons not visible on their screen. With a few tweaks, you can have a much better Blackboard viewing experience. Here is what you can do.

1. Get a bigger monitor (if possible). I would suggest 20 inches or greater.

2. Change your screen resolution. Blackboard's default screen width is 1100 pixels. So, you should have a resolution of 1280 x 1024 or higher. How to change screen resolution:
3. Work in a full screen mode when in Blackboard. Maximize the window to fill the whole screen, or press F11 on PCs. 

4. Set the correct zoom control on your browser. Hold the CTRL button and use your scroll wheel to zoom in or out until the horizontal scroll bar disappears.

5. Get rid of extra toolbars on your browser. Click here to get instructions on how to do this depending on which browser you use.

6. Collapse Blackboard menus/windows to maximize your work space. Watch video for more details.

Yahoo Email Issue in Blackboard


The following announcement only affects Blackboard users who have their email address in Blackboard set to an address which ends in @yahoo.com AND who send email via Blackboard to another user with a Yahoo account. This applies to less than 1% of all our Blackboard users.  Faculty, students and staff who possess a @kumc.edu email address are unaffected by this issue.

Yahoo has recently changed the way their servers deliver emails. Yahoo will no longer accept email sent from outside mail services, such as KUMC Blackboard, when the return address ends in @yahoo.com.  This means that email originating in Blackboard where BOTH the sender AND the recipient are Yahoo addresses will not be delivered.

If you are affected by this issue and wish to update your email in Blackboard to a non-Yahoo address, please contact TLT at 8-7107 for more information.  Again, any user who possesses a @kumc.edu email address is unaffected by this issue.  Blackboard always defaults to the @kumc.edu address whenever present.
